How To Play

Rendered Image

Welcome to A Strange Yet Wonderful Life, a fantasy roleplay designed by @asywlavion. All of you have been shared the Google Drive documents with the corresponding information enclosed.
The character registry is located here.
The banlist is located here.

For this Ultimate Fantasy Roleplay series, players will be communicating and moving around the world in an IRC client- a low power, low bandwidth chat system that makes moderation and management easy.

Here on ASYWL.blogspot, we have a built-in client available on the play page that you can use to connect to IRC instantly. You can download extra IRC clients for PC and Macintosh manually, but I'd encourage you to use the simple webchat version we have installed on the corresponding page.

Now, onto the basics. When you access the PLAY page, you'll be greeted by a blue plugin box with a few prompts, pictured below.

First, enter a nick. All ASYWL player nicks must have the following requirements:
  1. The nick should start with asywl.
  2. The nick should end with your character name that appears OUT OF THE LIGHT REALM.
Below the nick input, there's a box that includes all of the official ASYWL channels. As of yet, this is a complete list, and you shouldn't need to change anything here. All of the official ASYWL channels are:
  • ##asywllobby
  • ##asywllightrealm
  • ##asywltwilightrealm
  • ##asywlshadowrealm
  • ##asywlbloodshadowrealm
  • ##asywlvoidrealm
  • ##asywledison
All of the ASYWL channels start with two #'s. The reason for this is simple- the IRC server we're using, Freenode, was built for developers and open-source projects. All of our channels are "off-topic" for this reason. If you ever have to reconnect to one of the channels, simply type "/join ##[channelname]

Next, you'll see a checkbox that reads "auth to services". I would highly encourage you to check this box and input the username and password you would like to use permanently- this will ensure that your preferences sync across the internet. If you need help registering a Freenode account, this Wikihow article may assist you.

Press the Captcha check box (just to make sure you're not a bot), and connect!

You've been automatically dropped into all of the ASYWL rooms. To use user commands, press the "Status" button.

Alright. Let's run over the basics- first of all, you'll notice that there's someone in the chatroom that you haven't heard of before. @ChanServ is the channelbot that Freenode assigns to all rooms. You'll also notice that a few users have @'s next to their names- these are moderators. Don't ask to be one.

I think that's it. Make sure to ask if you have any questions!
